Blue Pilgrim Bag Finished

Blue Embroidered Pilgrim Bag; Cotton fabric, cotton embroidery floss in brick stitch; Card woven shoulder strap; by Sidney EileenI finished the Blue Pilgrim Bag the first week of November.  I had been contemplating doing a lot more embroidery on it, but when I got to this point I decided I was tired of the project and it looked complete without adding more, so I stopped.  If I decide at a later date that I want to resume embroidering on it, I can always remove the lining from the cover and add more.

The base fabric is I think cotton, woven with a diamond pattern in a short pile.  I filled in some of the diamonds on the cover flap with DMC cotton embroidery floss using brick stitch.  The lining is lightweight linen, whip stitched into place.  The shoulder strap is my very first card weaving project, which I wove so tightly that it ended up with a texture to it.  It is entirely hand sewn.

The project was inspired by pilgrim bags of the middle ages, and is a large enough size to hold an embroidery project, papers, or books when I am at reenactment events.
