I wrote these two articles in conjunction with two presentations for panels I gave at Clockwork Alchemy 2013.  They are both written with the beginner in mind.

I had my most recent appointment with my doctor on the 28th of May, 2013.  It ended up being a very productive appointment, with some unexpected results. We got back the results of the MRI of my brain, which is mostly clean.  I do not have any lesions, which is fantastic news. The results of the blood tests showed that my thyroid functions are slightly off from normal.  Initially, my doctor was planning to put me on a low dose of some thyroid medication to bring it back to normal, but I will not be able to do that therapy [...]

It’s been a little over a month since my last update, so I thought I’d let you guys know how things are going. The search for medical insurance has been completely unsuccessful.  Rather than running its own program, the state of Nevada chose to participate in the Federal PCIP (Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan) program, which Congress failed to fund, and thus was only accepting applications until mid-February. I found out about it literally five days after enrollment had closed.  The point of the program is to provide insurance at a reasonable cost to anyone with pre-existing conditions who is denied [...]

And that’s all folks! ….Well, not quite. :) The campaign is concluded, and it totalled out with $20,876 in contributions, from 467 funders! Support came from around the world, and this would not have been possible without all of your tireless shares and promotions, all the donations big and small, all the third party sales to generate more contributions, and most of all, this wouldn’t have happened without Lucy. I owe her a debt of gratitude that is beyond words. This is a huge boon. It may not cover all the medical expenses I can expect over the course of [...]

I had my second appointment with my doctor on March 20.  We were able to go over the tests I have taken so far, adjust my medication, and discuss anything else I has questions about. My legal name is Sandra Eileen Jacobs, so any direct quotes and scans of my medical information will refer to me by that name. When my doctor went over my co-infection and secondary-infections tests, I was very lucky.  Some people have a dozen, or even a couple dozen positive results on that battery of tests, but I came back with only three positives.  Even better, [...]

New Tutorial - Welt-Seam Corset Construction

This tutorial will walk you through the process of making a basic, boned Victorian underbust style corset from scratch. It is written with the novice corset maker in mind, providing start-to-finish instructions using a method that is much more straightforward and forgiving of imprecision and errors than most of the methods described in my tutorials.

New Tutorial - Drafting an Underbust Corset From Scale

The first part of that material is something I’ve been asked for time and time again, a piece on pattern drafting. This only begins to scratch the surface of the subject of corset pattern drafting, but starting from scale patterns and pattern modification is a great way to cut your teeth on the subject. By starting with a scale or other existing pattern, you don’t have to guess about shape, and can familiarize yourself with how the lines of the pattern affect the final design of the corset.

New Costume Photos - Elizabethan Irish Dress

This ensemble is a blue herringbone Elizabethan renaissance Irish dress, reenactment style. The chemise is an Irish style liene, and she is wearing a single underskirt. I drafted and created this piece in 2000, but took these pictures in February of 2013.
