Fancy Coutil Tight-Lace Underbust - WIP

On a general note, I am still without my own operational computer, and at this point I’m not sure how long it is going to take to amend that problem.  I have borrowed a friend’s computer for this entire night, and am madly catching up on general posts and trying to take care of other technical issues.  Updates will continue to be sporadic until I get my own computer again, which is an expense I truly cannot afford. . This is a tight-lacing underbust corset made from fancy import coutil, in a diamond brocade.  It is mostly together.  Tomorrow I [...]

Steampunk Violin Vest Final - WIP 1

I have resumed work on the Violin Vest, creating the final version.  This one is slightly larger than the previous, and I altered the pattern so the breast seam runs to the side of the double-breast, rather than straight down the center front.  I am also adding the striping detail to all breast panels, rather than just two of them. This image shows the marks for placing the contrast bars.  I created identical marks on all four breast pieces and sewed them while they could lay flat and even, to ensure they line up properly when fully assembled. At present, [...]

Silver Satin Kimono - WIP 2

The silver satin kimono is sewn, but I have not yet painted it.  Attached are some concept paintings in sumi on rice paper, rough styling ideas for the painting.  In addition to painting it, I am also planning to make two underlayer kimono, and I’m hoping (fingers crossed that I’ll have time) to make a corset to go with it.  If the corset does not happen, I do have a very pretty real obi that I can wear with it, but I’d rather the entire outfit was made by me. The sumi paintings will be available for sale in the [...]

Silver Satin Kimono - WIP 1

I started work last evening on a silver satin kimono, one of the costumes for the Nova Albion convention in March.  I chose this material for my first attempt because I have a whole roll of it, little use for it, and it is a wonderful weight and flow for a kimono.  When finished, I am intending to paint on it. Since I have never made a kimono before (or any similar garment), I am leaning heavily on the instructions and pattern diagrams in Making Kimono and Japanese Clothes. It’s an excellent read, with clear instructions and historic notes, but laid [...]

Red Silk Sweetheart - WIP2

This corset is a remake of an earlier corset that had a serious drafting error.  As long as I had to re-make it, I made some other improvements over the earlier corset.  This one has a slightly smaller waistline (at the customer’s request), spiral boning around most of the body (instead of spring steel flats), and to accommodate the altered shape the boning is single and each spaced slightly less than 1/2″ apart. At this point the corset is nearly finished, and I am hoping to get a bit more done tonight.  All it needs is the edging, lace, grommets, [...]

Leather Brassier - WIP 1

Next up is a leather brassier.  When finished it is going to be made from heavy-weight dark brown leather, with a buckle front.  The shaping is demi-cup, so it will support without fully covering, and will descend a bit down the torso like a bodice.  The very rough mock-up is pictured below.

If you see a 500 error, please just reload or try again.  I am at the mercy of my host provider, and there is nothing I can do to fix the problem myself.  I must wait for them to fix it.  As soon as they have fixed the problem, I will resume posting.  I have a lot of stuff ready to add, including some new tutorials and current projects.

Red Silk Sweetheart - WIP 1

This is one of the projects currently on my sewing machine.  It’s a re-make of a red silk sweetheart overbust, with flossing and lace edging on the top.  The first version will be staying in my personal collection as an example of flossing, because I made a rather silly mistake in the final draft and it will never fit properly on an actual human being. The new site is up and running.  It’s not perfect yet, and it’s not complete, but it is running.  All the product information, portfolios, and tutorials from the old site have been transferred, along with about 1/3 of my old blog entries.  In the next few weeks expect the layouts to change, especially in the portfolios and the sidebars.  I’ll also be continuing to add all my old blog entries. Current Features: My sewing, corsetry, and art blog is now up and running.  In the next few days I will resume updates with WIP, musings on sewing and drafting, notification [...]
