Technical Illustration Commission

Technical Illustration Portfolio Gallery
I create high quality technical illustrations is to illustrate details of the artifacts which are difficult to capture with a photograph, such as emphasizing decorative details and surface texture, or visually describing the contours of the objects. I can also create maps, site illustrations, and theoretical life scenes.
All illustrations are created on archival quality grounds, typically in graphite pencil or ink. Illustrations can also be created in ink and watercolor, colored pencil, or oil paint. They are normally made by photo, rather than risk shipping artifacts.
Final price is based on the medium used and estimated time to complete the project. My current rate is $40/hour, with additional flat fees for watercolor or oil paintings. Price also typically includes the original illustration, a high-resolution digitized copy, and limited non-exclusive reproduction rights so the illustrations may be used for teaching and publication. Very small or simple artifact illustrations, such as the one to the left, may be as little as $80 (one hour per view). Discounts are negotiable for a large number of illustrations commissioned at the same time. For a precise quote, please contact me with your request.
A non-refundable 50% deposit is required for most technical illustrations. When the illustration is complete, I will email a low-resolution digital image for your approval. Only after payment has been received in full will the illustration be shipped and high-resolution digital copies provided. Shipping prices are additional. During the quote process I will give an estimate of the shipping.
