Costume and Clothing Portfolio

As an historical reenactor and steampunk enthusiast, I use my knowledge of historic garments and research to create whatever I envision. Every item is custom designed and drafted, so anything is possible, from full historic accuracy in any period, to stage or costume quality garments, or entirely new fashions based closely or loosely on historic designs.  Examples of my past work are displayed in this gallery.

  1. I was referred to you by Kim of Kim’s Couture. I was hoping that either yourself or maybe you know of someone that works with Lycra and Spandex can re-create some simple exercise pants that I love. I have the originals and those can be used as patterns. I’ve been on the internet but those that call themselves seamstresses are doing hem.?! I appreciate any help that you can give me in this matter. Thanking you in advance. – Maria Whitney

    • I’m sorry, but I don’t know of anyone either. I have very, very little experience with stretchy materials myself, and I don’t know anyone who does. I’m self-taught, so I’m very good at the things that interest me and completely ignorant of other things. Have you checked with seamstresses that are more focused on athletic wear or pop culture fashion? Also, a competent seamstress who has formal school training should be familiar with the task.

    • I did not find a specific seamstress when I searched, but I did find a good site where your own search might bear more fruit. I’m linking you directly to the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals’ index of dancewear specialists, but there are other specialists you can search on the same site.

      • Hi Maria,
Try contacting Linda Bair of the Linda Bair Dance Company in Davis, CA. (lindabairdancecompany@gmail.com). She creates all of her own costumes for modern dance productions and the fabric is always spandex or lycra so they can move in it.
