Detail Crop of "The Longest Night", colored pencil on black paper.

I have been wanting to create at least one piece of art for the coming Yule, so in the previous two days, between housecleaning in preparation for a holiday visit, I created “The Longest Night”.  It’s a drawing of a stag, representing the horned lord of the forest, pausing in the moonlight on the night of the winter solstice.

Minimalist Wolf Looking Back 3

In October I was approached about creating a minimalist painting of a wolf for a tattoo design.  The specific concept was a wolf, walking up a hill, pauses to look back over its shoulder at the viewer.  One of the things I love about the small minimalist commissions is that I can make multiple finished renditions for a single commission, so the customer gets exactly what they want.

These are the first two renditions I created, which were offered to the customer at one time.

She liked the look of the first one, except for the placement of the head and the line of the outer cheek, so I created a third version for her to review.

Traces of Fox

The lovely ladies over at MANDEM have been sharing calls for art with me, so I have decided to start participating in some MailArt projects.  My first foray into MailArt is for the “Traces” call, presented by 5Blanks.  The deadline isn’t until June 15th, so while there’s not much time left, if you want to get into the project look at the details and get your art over there.

At this point it does not even have postage on it, because, frankly, I’m not sure how much postage it will need.  I look forward to seeing the image posted on the other end, and what traces of its travels will mark its surface.

My submission to the project is a minimalist brush marker red fox trotting across the paper.

When the fox passes on it’s silent path, in no time at all, all that remains are the barest Traces.

Minimalist and Abstract Art

I specialize in realistic, fine art treasures, portraits, wildlife art, and fantasy art, Celtic knotwork, and abstract minimalist art.  My primary mediums include colored pencil, ink, and oil paint.  Examples of my past work are displayed in these galleries.  I am no longer selling art or taking commissions due to health problems.

Minimalist Art

My goal in creating minimalist art is to convey a complete image, with movement and life, in the fewest strokes possible. Line width variation, sweeping strokes, and half-described figures combine in the mind to show the viewer something more than what is actually placed on paper or canvas. Mediums include brush marker, watercolor, and acrylic paint.

Realistic Animal Art

My animal art evolved out of a deep desire to convey far more than just a pretty drawing of an animal. Through deep contrasts in lighting, dramatic eyes, intense detail, void space, and partially-hidden forms, I seek to give the viewer pause, to stop and think, and gain a glimpse into the spirit or soul of the subject. They are more than just pretty drawings, they are windows into beings other than ourselves, our brothers and sisters on this Earth.
