There will be no prints of this image. I have found I am unable to satisfactorily scan these white-on-black drawings and retain full detail in the shading. I've never tried to draw wet fur before, but I thought a river otter should be wet. I looked at a lot of photos of wet otters to get the fur and the head right, but I couldn't find a single one that gave me exactly the angle I wanted, and nowhere near the kind of lighting I wanted. No prints. I had a very difficult time getting it to scan this well, and I debated not posting it at all because of the quality. Each panel required 4 scans, and you can see a ghosting on the edges of the paper because it couldn't lay flat.

This piece was inspired a couple months back, when I was at Half Moon Bay watching the moon over the ocean on a very cold fall night. I've been turning it over and over in my head, and this is what I finally came up with.

The car is an MG Midget, drawn from photos of the car Alister is restoring. I don't draw cars very often, but I think I did it justice. It was drawn entirely freehand. I did not use ruler, compass, stencil, or any other drafting tools.

When Alister commissioned the piece, he gave me total freedom with the setting. I debated a few different places in my head, but after conversing with Alister a couple times I went in search of photos of Alaska in the hopes of finding inspiration, and I did. I stumbled across different photos of small, wilderness air strips, and I knew that was the setting. After examining many of those photos and other photos of Alaska, I created my own fictional air strip, just for Alister. I hope you like it!
