I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for a photo of a black-and-white cat to draw on black paper, and this cute little kitten caught by eye.

I left most of the paper blank. I’ve been having fun with negative space lately.

The digital copy of this drawing took a lot more editing after scanning then normal. Normally I can make some small global balance adjustments after scanning, and it’s all good. On this one, the scanner was interpreting the texture of the paper to be almost exactly the same color as the highlighting of the black fur, so I had to go in by hand and erase all the paper texture to create a true, black background. It also refused to color the b/w portions true, so I had to take two seperate scans and recombine the colored and b/w portions of the drawing.
