Work in Progress

Steampunk-Meme Minimalist Paintings - Batch 1

Over the past two days I’ve been working on a batch of eight textured acrylic mini canvas board minimalist paintings (For being minimalist, the description sure is a mouth-full!). They are mostly on 3″x5″ canvas board, with one 4″x5″ and one 5″x7″. This entry shows the WIP photos I took along the way as I created layers.

On The Trail - Inked

8.5″x11″ ink on watercolor paper. The actual drawing is in dark brown ink, but I scanned it in black and white. Overall I like this rendition a lot more than the previous attempt.

On The Trail - Starting Over

The first rendition of On The Trail ended up being ruined, so I had to start over. In doing so, I also decided to rearrange the composition a little. This is the pencil sketch before inking.

On The Trail - WIP Art

Today I have been working on a drawing featuring a post-apocalyptic neo-bedouin steampunk woman. At least, that’s my main inspiration personally. I could see her in any near-eastern or multicultural steampunk world. Her outfit is inspired by Renaissance faire tribal fusion belly dance wear, with the addition of a few re-purposed machine parts, moccasins, Native American style warrior feathers, and a really big knife.

Painting Updates - 23 March 2012

I spent four hours this afternoon painting, finished the test portrait for Diana, and worked on two other paintings, a Celtic knotwork piece and a still life.

Woven Celestial Dragon - WIP

A series of work in progress images, showing the creation of a Celtic knot work style celestial dragon, swimming through the night sky. Watercolor and ink on aquabord, 6″x6″.

Painting Updates - 10 March 2012

I spent a little time painting this afternoon. It’s not much, but the weather was turning to rain so I came back inside. Updates are to the commissioned portrait and celtic knot work oil painting.

I have set up a new email newsletter!  I’m planning to send a new newsletter every 1-2 weeks.  It will summarize current projects, recently posted information and tutorials, and inform of upcoming workshops, shows, and other events, allowing you, my valued readers, to stay informed on my current events without checking an RSS or other feed every day. To subscribe to my newsletter, fill out the form in the sidebar or visit my Newsletter page and fill out the form there.  I use a double opt-in system, so you’ll need to confirm the subscription from your email.

Line Art - Almost Ready

This venture into steampunk artwork is the line art for a piece of inked artwork featuring a neo-Victorian steampunk woman in the process of preparing to meet the day. The ink wash will be added later.

Painting Updates - 16 February 2012

I spent about three hours painting this afternoon, finished two small paintings, and added a lot of detail to the commissioned portrait. This entry describes the WIP commission portrait.
