Copper Wire Circlets

Three-Strand Copper Wire Circlet, by Sidney Eileen. This is my very first ever attempt at one of these.
Three-Strand Copper Wire Circlet

So, I tried my hand at bent copper wire circlets as a surprise for Diana a couple days ago.  The three-strand is my first attempt, lightly beaten with a chasing hammer on a jewelry anvil to slightly temper the wire and set the loops at the back.  I didn’t realize until after it was finished that the wire has a clear plastic(?) coating on it, which is now flaking and seems impossible to cleanly remove, making the color splotchy.  Still, I’m very happy with it as a first attempt.

Having learned about the coating from the first attempt, before starting on the second circlet I sanded the wire first with sandpaper.  I will need to pick up some steel wool to make the job easier on future items.  Anyway, it’s two twisted wires, lightly cold tempered with a chasing hammer and jewelry anvil.  I still didn’t manage to get the loops at the ends to look the same, but overall I am also happy with this attempt.  Now Diana and I have circlets we can wear with our veils if we don’t want to bother with pins.

These were actually much faster and easier to make than I was expecting.  I think I spent only about a half hour on the two-strand circlet, so I’m strongly contemplating making a bunch of these as largess for the SCA, and I think if I could get together enough equipment for people to borrow they would be practical to offer as a workshop class at SCA events.
