Recordings Sigils The Balancing Path (prose) Witchcraft

Lunatic Mondays Podcast Interview

Lunatic Mondays, a bilingual podcast from the Circle Sanctuary Network Podcasts, hosted an interview with me on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 5pm Pacific time. The one hour conversation most focused on the importance of centering gender diversity in my pagan writing. It is available to listen to anytime.

Since this was my very first time appearing on a podcast, I was, of course, nervous, but Laura González was a fantastic host, and in no time at all the conversation felt natural and engaging. We talked a bit about my background in witchcraft, and how my experience of gender plays into my writing. We talked a great deal about the importance of inclusion and diversity, and although both of us forgot to use the word intersectional, it is dear in both our hearts.

We talked a bit about being in the closet, and how although I have never considered myself to be in the closet, for most of my life and in most places I have not been overt or forward about my status as a witch or queer and genderqueer person. We also mentioned safety, and a bit about secrets and public vs. private life, and my reasons for preferring to have little to no compartmentalization in my life. What you see is what you get, provided, of course, that you are capable of seeing what is there.

We talked about feminism, and the twisting of feminism into gender essentialism, as well as the need for proactive defense of our communities against those who would bring hate. This plays into quite a bit of my writing, but it was particularly glaring in the responses I received to an inclusive article on menstrual magic. This led into discussing the importance of claiming ownership of your body, no matter who you are, and how efforts at exclusion and discrimination are damaging to everyone, not just the direct targets of the hate.

We also talked about my gender diversity sigil, and all the specific intentions that went into its creation, as well as reflecting on how my background as an artist influences my work.

On the whole, I have no doubt our chat on Lunatic Mondays could have kept on talking for another hour or two, but the time was up. It was an undeniable pleasure, and I do welcome any questions you may have about anything we talked about during the podcast.
