Sigil Supporting Access to Medical Care

Due to structural violence in most health care systems it can be difficult to successfully achieve access to medical care, especially for rare or invisible illnesses, or when discrimination is a factor. Nothing can guarantee you will get the medical care you need (especially in the USA where I live), so the Sigil Supporting Access to Medical Care is intended to increase the odds of receiving needed medical care. This includes any kind of medical care, be it acute or chronic, mental or physical.

Intentions for the Sigil Supporting Access to Medical Care

I have focused the intentions of this sigil from the perspective of someone who has to deal with for-profit health care in the USA, but even in some countries with socialized medicine any of these factors can impede access to health care in some situations. If one or more of these intentions do not apply in the specific case you wish to use the sigil for, that just means the magic will act as a ward, helping to ensure those things do not become problems.

This sigil has a particularly large number of symbols that do multi-duty, representing aspects of multiple intentions. The overall shape is intentionally reminiscent of a royal scepter, representing both command and effective delegation of medical treatment. That is because your body should be under your control at all times, with you ultimately deciding your course of treatment, but with the help and guidance of qualified, competent medical professionals. Those particular symbols which simultaneously represent many intentions are concentrated at the center of the scepter’s head.

Overcome financial barriers

This is left vague because financial barriers and the solutions to them can vary tremendously between specific cases. The magic can seek out the best solution for the specific barriers at hand, so that paying for treatment will not prevent access to care.

This is symbolized in the “X” at the center of the hearts, and in the multiple crescent moons cradling the other symbols of care.

Receive prompt appointments

When you ask for an appointment, you will receive one as soon as possible. In situations where appointment times tend to be few and far between, it will help to shorten those appointment wait times as much as possible.

This is symbolized in the “+” at the center of the hearts, and in the two simplified analog clocks towards the top of the sigil.

Doctors listen and take symptoms seriously

Everyone I know who struggles with chronic illness, mental or physical, has stories of doctors dismissing or ignoring their symptoms. It is also not unusual for doctors to dismiss or incorrectly blame new symptoms on weight, age, sex, gender, or other factors based in discrimination. This core intention wards against discriminatory doctors, and increases the chances that the doctors you see will believe you and take your symptoms seriously. Having the help of a doctor is essential to finding an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.

This is symbolized in the four hearts capping the central “+”, and in the pentagram listening to the simplified stethoscope at the very top of the sigil.

Tests and medications are approved and dispensed quickly and easily

Quick testing and ready availability of medications are important to diagnosing and treating medical problems before they get out of hand. In the USA insurance companies regularly override doctors and block or delay access to tests and medications, so this is especially important in the country where I live. But, even in some countries with socialized medicine, this can be a problem for some people and some medical issues. This intention helps to minimize those problems, so medical issues can be quickly diagnosed and effectively treated.

This imperative of activity is symbolized in the three dots within each heart, the “+” sign at the center of the hearts, the eight-rayed asterisk made by the “+” and “X” at the center of the hearts, and in the arrowheads hidden around the asterisk.

Facilities are accessible

This intention is twofold. One, the medical facilities that meet your medical needs are located where you can get to them, or that you will be able to find feasible transportation to and from those facilities. Two, the facilities will be navigable and accessible to you if you have disabilities, limitations, or special needs, without triggering or causing additional trauma.

This is symbolized primarily by the simplified wheelchair symbols at the top of the sigil, which doubles as the simplified analog clocks and lightning bolts. It can also be seen in the hidden arrows pointing to the center of the asterisk.

Treatment is attainable and effective

This intention is giving extra oomph to, and creating an umbrella for most of the other intentions. Basically, if there are any barriers to treatment that are not specifically addressed by the other intentions, this intention should catch it and help to remove or reduce those barriers.

This is symbolized in the hearts, in the “+” at the center of the hearts, in the crescent moons, in the evil eye ward / bullseye at the bottom of the sigil, and in the simplified caduceus (the intertwined snakes feeding into the asterisk at the core of the sigil.

Have the energy to seek and follow medical treatment

The process of seeking medical care and following treatment advice is much easier if you have the energy to follow through.

This is symbolized by the lightning bolts at the top which double as part of a simplified wheelchair symbol, indicating that in addition to bolstering personal energy, accommodations should be made to ensure the available energy is enough the get needed care.

As you can see, I reworded many of the intentions on the final sigil graphic. This was entirely for clarity.

This is one of the sigils that I wish wasn’t needed, and I hope one day no one will need to use it.

How to Use the Sigil Supporting Access to Medical Care

You can use this sigil in any way that is in line with its intent and makes sense for your practice.  Some ideas are to:

  • inscribe it on a candle
  • print it or draw it on a piece of paper and place it on your altar or somewhere you see regularly
  • put a copy in your wallet
  • use it as the wallpaper, login background, or screen saver on your phone, tablet, or computer
  • make something crafty and include the sigil in your creation
  • use it as a focus for meditation
  • draw it on the body using salted water, anointing oil, an herb blend, makeup, body paint, henna, markers, temporary tattoo pens, etc.
  • draw it onto your personal copies of paperwork
  • print out the logo for your health care provider and draw the sigil onto it
  • and so on

Your rendering of the sigil does not need to be perfect.  Intent is what matters, so do not worry if you cannot draw it “perfectly”.  As long as all the elements are there, you are good.

Like any sigil, it will be most effective when it is used in conjunction with real-world actions.  Be sure to do what you can physically to seek medical care and treat your condition, and be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions.  The sigil is a boost to your odds, not a solution into and of itself.

If you wish you use it as a focus in workings to help the world in general and anyone who needs it, you are welcome to do so.  Instead of focusing the sigil for a single person/situation, send the intent to help anyone who is struggling and could use the benefits of the sigil.

Sharing the Sigil Supporting Access to Medical Care

The sigil graphic does contain enough text to help clarify it when it is shared out in the wilds of the internet, but best practice is to include a link back to this article.  That way others who see it can find out exactly what it is charged to do, in detail.  Sigils are most effective when the user knows exactly what they were created to do, and that is also the only way they can be certain this sigil is right for them and their situation.
