Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets

It is a sad truth that accessing social safety nets can be difficult, confusing, and overwhelming, with significant delays between applying for and receiving aid. While this is the norm in many regions of the USA, even in countries with more robust social safety nets there can sometimes be significant delays or difficulties involved in applying for or receiving needed aid. The Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets was created to provide a magical boost to help make your process of applying for, renewing, or receiving needed aid as smooth and fast as possible.

The Sigil for Accessing the Social Safety Net pairs well with the Sigil Supporting Access to Medical Care, if you need the aid of a social safety net to achieve access to medical care.

Symbology and Intentions of the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets

When you are drawing this sigil yourself, feel free to change the designs on the keys. I chose to use three distinctly different key shapes, based on vintage keys, to represent that there are often very different kinds of information that need to be provided simultaneously in order to successfully apply for aid. If there are other key shapes that have meaning to you, please use those instead.

Successful navigation of application or renewal process

In order for any case to succeed, you must first successfully navigate the application or renewal process. This is represented by the two spiral mazes. No matter how you go about navigating the process, even if it feels like you are failing or moving backwards, if you keep on the path you will get there and be able to successfully submit your application.

Case is handled by compassionate people

In some cases, the individual handing your application has a great deal of power over whether or not your case proceeds, and how quickly. If your case is placed in the hands of someone compassionate, they will do their best to see it through as quickly and easily as possible. This is represented by the heart shape surrounding the target of accessing the social safety net, and includes the maze, because a compassionate worker can be your best guide in navigating the process.

Required proof is obtainable and understood

For the smoothest possible process, it is important to understand what proof is required, be able to obtain that proof, and present it in a way that will be understood by those processing your application. This is represented by the three keys at the base of sigil, for without proof of what you need, no one can receive help from social safety nets.

All information is clearly communicated

Clear communication both from and to those handing your case will work wonders for making sure everything gets done as smoothly and easily as possible, with the least amount of stress and confusion. This is symbolized by the multiple open circles in the sigil, especially the intertwined circles on the keys, because communication must come from multiple sources and be received clearly by multiple recipients.

The process is as fast and smooth as possible

This is represented by the unbroken and unencumbered spiral lines, leading into an arrow moving quickly towards the target.

Blessings for the case to be approved

This is represented primarily by the target at the center of the sigil, which joins the paths that create the arrow.

Blessings for all needed aid to be provided

This is represented by the asterisk at the top of the sigil, representing action and whatever it is that you need provided.

Reduce stress levels throughout the process

It can sometimes be hard to stay calm throughout the process, especially if it takes a long time or there are significant obstacles to overcome. However, stressing about it does nothing of benefit, so the sigil helps provide assurance that you are doing everything you can, so that you can stay as calm as possible. This is represented by the straight lines that form the stems of the keys (reminding you to stay steady and the needed proof will come), the gentle curves of the heart (as things ebb and flow, stay the path and you will get to your destination), and the straight line running from the bullseye to the arrowhead (stay the course and you will get there).

How to Use the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets

You can use the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets in any way that is in line with its intent and makes sense for your practice.  Some ideas are to:

  • inscribe it on a candle
  • print it or draw it on a piece of paper and place it on your altar or somewhere you see regularly
  • put a copy in your wallet
  • use it as the wallpaper, login background, or screen saver on your phone, tablet, or computer
  • make something crafty and include the sigil in your creation
  • use it as a focus for meditation
  • draw it on the body using salted water, anointing oil, an herb blend, makeup, body paint, henna, markers, temporary tattoo pens, etc.
  • print it onto temporary tattoo paper and apply it to your body
  • and so on

Your rendering of the sigil does not need to be perfect.  Intent is what matters, so do not worry if you cannot draw it “perfectly”.  As long as all the elements are there, you are good.

Like any sigil, the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets will be most effective when it is used in conjunction with real-world actions.  You are never going to access any social safety net if you do not do the work to apply and see the process through. The Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets is designed to help support you throughout the process, and provide a magical boost to help you more easily and quickly obtain the help you need.

If you wish you use it as a focus in workings to help the world in general and anyone who needs it, you are welcome to do so.  Instead of focusing the sigil for a single person/situation, send the intent to help anyone who is struggling and could use the benefits of the sigil.

Please read On the Care and Use of Sigils for more information about how to use sigils.

Tattoos and Body Art of the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets

I specifically recommend against getting this particular sigil tattooed on your body. Applying for and renewing access to social safety nets can take a long time (depending upon what you are applying for, why, and where), but they are not a continual for the rest of your life kind of thing. There will be periods of time between approval and renewal, so temporary body art methods are much more appropriate.

That said, if you want to get a tattoo of any of my sigils, you do not need to ask me for personal permission.  Permission is granted.  However, I do recommend that you carefully consider whether or not the sigil in question is actually something you need working on you constantly for the rest of your life.  If the answer is no, temporary body art is probably the better way to go, even if you recreate it on a frequent or semi-regular basis.

I also strongly recommend using a temporary body art method to test-drive any sigil before getting it permanently inked.  This can let you test the impact of the sigil, including how placement changes the effects.  This isn’t just some cool design that you like.  It is a piece of magic and will have impact beyond aesthetics.

If you do decide getting a tattoo of one of my sigils is the way to go, I would love it if you showed me how it turned out!  You can send me a message through my website or social media.  If you post the photo to the internet, please tag me on social media so I can see.

Print-on-Demand Purchase of the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets

I have set up the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets print-on-demand in my RedBubble shop, so it can be more convenient to use for those who do not have the time/skills/energy to redraw or recreate the sigil. I have set the items in the shop to 0% commission, so the prices you see are the base prices. Due to my own health problems, I am incapable of doing order fulfillment or running a business, and as a spoonie witch I want the convenience of purchasing for myself as well.

Print-on-demand is provided purely as a convenience, not as a business endeavor. That means I am unlikely to rush to meet any requests for available items or sigils, and I have no control over RedBubble’s order fulfilment processes. I have not purchased or tested the vast majority of products available from RedBubble, but I have set them up in ways that I hope will be issue-free.

Sharing the Sigil for Accessing Social Safety Nets

The sigil graphic does contain enough text to help clarify it when it is shared out in the wilds of the internet, but best practice is to include a link back to this article.  That way others who see it can find out exactly what it is intended to do, in detail.  Sigils are most effective when the user understands the symbology and knows exactly what they were created to do, and that is also the only way they can be certain this sigil is right for them and their situation.
