White Rose

This is a back-dated post for my archive project, where I am copying over every piece of art I have ever submitted to DeviantArt, with the original submission date or watermarked year stamp, so a complete archive of my work can be found on this website.

This is my entry to `shelldevil’s Mucha contest. I felt like doing a fantasy piece. Haven’t drawn an elf in years, but didn’t much feel like drawing a waif, so this was perfect. :aww:

The border is a true weave pattern. I just played with the line widths so it had more of an art nouveau feel to it. Two chords. I left the rose white because magical white roses appear in so many old tales of the folk.

My first attempt at inking this piece was on the polypropylene paper, but that didn’t go nearly as well as I expected. The Micron pens smudged, even after drying overnight. India ink smeared into a giant blur even after drying overnight. The Copic markers didn’t smear, but the tones were very pastel. None of them that I tried would go on dark, no matter how dark the ink. I think it warrants further investigation with other inks, like acrylic inks, but I didn’t have the right colors and tools to be able to attempt this piece in that medium.
