Cleansing, Banishing, and Neutralizing Sigil

The Cleansing, Banishing, and Neutralizing Sigil is an alternative to candles, incense, and other traditional methods for cleansing and banishing energy on objects and spaces prior to magical consecration, dedication, enchantment, or other workings. It clears out residual and polarized energies, creating an energetically neutral environment primed for new foci or imbuing with specific energies.

Incantation for the Cleansing, Banishing, and Neutralizing Sigil

This incantation may optionally be used in conjunction with the sigil, to emphasize what the sigil is intended to act upon. Just replace [subject] with the subject (object or space) that you wish to energetically cleanse and neutralize with the sigil.

Begone!
Clingy, residual energies,
of tasks and situations past,
and all that which lingers
after its time has passed!

Move on!
Or rest well!
That this [subject]
may achieve a neutral state,
primed and ready,
to receive new energies
for tasks and situations ahead!

So mote it be!

Symbology of the Cleansing, Banishing, and Neutralizing Sigil

There are two primary energetic imperatives worked into the symbology of this sigil: clearing out old energies, and priming for the introduction of new energies. This is ideal when preparing for consecration, dedication, enchantment, repurposing old objects, cleansing a new home, etc.

Clearing out old energies is achieved by dots and arrows radiating outwards from the center of the sigil. The arrows grow on the way out to indicate the energy being yeeted away. The arrows are hooked to spit back away any energy that tries to return, and the dots show dissolution of energies that can be cleansed entirely.

The arrows are built on five crescent shapes that catch incoming energies and send them back out again. This ensures nothing new can be introduced and helps funnel existing energies away from the subject of the sigil. There are five to indicate the full spectrum of potential energies are affected, symbolizing the four elements plus Spirit.

The pentagram and open circles are holding space, ensuring that the subject is energetically neutral and fully primed for new energies after the sigil has been removed. The open circles also represent Void, pure potential from which all comes from and eventually returns.

The circle and dot in the center is a simplification of the nazar, giving special attention to finding and clearing detrimental energies.

How NOT to use the Cleansing, Banishing, and Neutralizing Sigil

The Cleansing, Banishing, and Neutralizing Sigil is for objects and spaces, to prime them for magical use or clear them of old energies to make room for new. It is NOT intended for use on biological creatures, including humans. We have very complex energy bodies, and although it is important to keep your energy body clean from unwanted foreign and detrimental energies, attempting to turn a person or animal’s energy body into a neutral vessel for new energy is far more likely to cause problems than solve them. If you are looking for something to help cleanse your personal energies, this is NOT the sigil for that.

Creating or imbuing new energies is not possible while this sigil is in use (or, if you do manage it, the sigil will clear it out rather quickly). That means you do not want to permanently inscribe this on anything that you intend to use for any other purpose in the future. For example, you can use the sigil on a new home to help clear out old energies, but do not permanently inscribe it, or the sigil will prevent you from creating new energies (including blessings and wards!) within that space.

This sigil can be used on divinatory objects, especially if they are entirely new to you or you want a completely fresh start. However, if you regularly cleanse your divinatory objects as part of your practice, I do not recommend using this sigil for that purpose, because it will completely neutralize all the rapport energy you have developed with your divination tools.

  • Do NOT attempt to use this sigil for energetically cleansing and grounding yourself or other people.
  • Do NOT attempt to use this sigil for energetically cleansing your pets or other animals.
  • Think long and hard before you use this sigil for energetically cleansing plants and other biological beings.
  • Do NOT permanently place this sigil on anything you want to use for any purpose other than cleansing other objects/spaces.

How to use the Cleansing, Banishing, and Neutralizing Sigil

You can use this sigil in any way that is in line with its intent and makes sense for your practice. When using it you do need to focus on both the sigil and that which you specifically wish to cleanse.  Some ideas are to:

  • inscribe it on a candle to burn while focusing on the subject to be cleansed
  • print it or draw it on a piece of paper, then place the subject on the paper or wrap it in the paper
  • make something crafty with the sigil (put it on fabric, plate, bowl, cup, bag etc.) to hold the subject you want the sigil to affect
  • use it as a focus for meditation along with the subject of the sigil
  • draw it temporarily on the object or space using salted water, moon water, anointing oil, an herb blend, etc.
  • draw it in salt either in/on the subject, or such that you can place the subject in the center of it
  • draw it onto a paper hand fan, or attach it to a ritual broom to cleanse energy from a space
  • and so on

Your rendering of the sigil does not need to be perfect.  Intent is what matters, so do not worry if you cannot draw it “perfectly”.  As long as all the elements are there, you are good.

If you wish to use this for baneful workings, for example to cleanse, banish, and neutralize structural violence, unjust laws, corrupt law enforcement, greedy corporations, etc., especially if doing so will make room for equitable systems, that is within the scope of the sigil. I suggest using the sigil along with representations of whatever you wish to banish in a long-term way like a jar or bag spell, or a poppet.

The sigil graphic does contain enough text to help clarify it when it is shared out in the wilds of the internet, but best practice is to include a link back to this article.  That way others who see it can find out exactly what it is intended to do, in detail.  Sigils are most effective when the user understands the symbology and knows exactly what they were created to do, and that is also the only way they can be certain this sigil is right for them and their situation.
