Today’s minimalist painting is 9″x5.5″, watercolor on cold press watercolor paper

This piece arose out of a need to test different ways of painting a rainbow in watercolor, so I decided to turn it into an art piece on its own merit and experiment with masking fluid at the same time. I first painted on the parrot in masking fluid using a rubbery sculpting tool I have for impasto painting (which took some getting used to, but actually works very well). I then washed over it with rainbow colors, waited for it to dry, and removed the masking fluid.
