Good Luck Sigils

These two very different looking Good Luck Sigils both utilize the same symbolic elements to bring good luck, whether you are tackling a difficult problem, want another component in your working to further boost your odds of success, need a boost to your prosperity (whatever that means for you), are just looking for some added brightness to your day, or something else entirely. They can be used literally any time you need better odds or good luck, or to manifest unexpected boons and happy circumstances in your everyday life.

May I be blessed
with beating the odds
gloriously!
May beneficial things
come my way,
work out in my favor,
and unexpected good luck
make its home in my life.
So Mote It Be!

Why There are Two Good Luck Sigils

Both Good Luck Sigils draw upon exactly the same intentions, incantation, and included symbols, so they carry extremely similar magical energy and power. You can use either or both of them. Objectively, neither is better than the other, but, each may be better suited to different people or different circumstances. When I went to create this sigil, I immediately used two dramatically different approaches, and I liked them both equally, so I decided to flesh out both and share them equally.

The mandala version is significantly more complex than the chalice version, making it potentially challenging or impossible to remember and draw freehand when you want to use it. However, that complexity gives it more nuance, and can be of tremendous benefit when using it in meditation. There are a lot more layers of symbology to be found in a more complex form, even if the base symbology is the same as the overflowing chalice version. It also looks more like random abstract art, and thus can work as stealth magic for those who are in the broom closet.

The chalice version is much simpler, so it will be easier to remember and to draw. That simplicity can also make it easier for quick focus and on-the-go use, and lends itself to getting straight to the core meaning without the flowery layers. It is just as potent, but it gets there in a different way.

Beyond that, it is also a matter of personal taste. Some people love mandalas, and some people will click with the overall form of a cup that floweth over. Some people may find benefit in using both, either together or for different applications. Read the specific visual symbology of each to help you decide which to use.

Good Luck Sigil (mandala), by Sidney Eileen on http://TheBalancingPath.blog/

Symbology of the Good Luck Sigil (mandala)

The overall form of this Good Luck Sigil is based on a mandala. That means it receives from all directions and emanates in all directions. For those who are into numerology, it has repetitions of fives and twos. The twos represent choices and forks in the road, because we want the path taken to go in a beneficial direction. The fives represent exploration of new horizons, adventure, possibilities ahead. Five also represents the four elements plus spirit, indicating that all of reality is moving towards good things in harmony and balance.

The asterisks indicate action, both circumstantial and deliberate, that allows the good luck to occur. Throughout the sigil there are a great many places where two lines cross each other to form a “+”, indicating crossroads that are being taken, and encouraging beneficial outcomes.

The dot at the center of the pentagram, when viewed in concert with the elements plus spirit, represents void. When I talk about or call upon the Void, I am talking about that which is outside of our universe, outside of our reality.  I am talking about that from which our entire universe came forth, and to which it will someday return, only to begin a new universe all over again.  I am talking about a place of unreality which is pure undetermined potential. By invoking void, the sigil taps into that potential for for both manifestation and destruction, in whatever way is needed to produce good luck.

Looking Inward

The primary focal point is based on a target with five layers. When looking from the outside, everything moves towards the center, the bullseye of good luck. The circles also represent completion and protection, deflecting the bad and allowing in the good. The outermost circle also encases a pentacle, bringing power, magic, balance, and all the elements in.

There are five radiating arrow forms, being shot through crescent moons. The moons further protect, while serving as the bow shooting the arrow towards good luck. They also acknowledge that luck can be fickle and ebbs and flows even under the best of circumstances, but with skilled direction, you can still hit the target accurately. The arrowhead is a heart, and another heart is at the base of the fletching, indicating loving compassion and kindness, both for yourself and others. The dots represent action, and also hide an exclamation point created by the shaft of the arrow, representing unexpected events and action.

The forms between the arrows look like smiling faces, because it is easier to be happy and fulfilled when things go your way. The crescent moon recognizes the ebb and flow of emotions and circumstances, but leans towards an overall happy situation.

Looking Outward

When you look from the center out, the arrows become blooming plants, reaching out, fed and nurtured by the good luck generated at the center. It is hard to grow new things when life keeps you down, but when things go your way, building and growing is usually natural and easy.

The other form is reminiscent of both a four-leaf clover and a butterfly. The clover is for luck and growth. The butterfly is for beautiful transformation and manifestation that is possible due to the good luck. This is shielded by another crescent moon, cradling the magical energies that are being nurtured in the pentagram, and protecting any transformations while they are in progress

Good Luck Sigil (overflowing chalice), by Sidney Eileen on http://TheBalancingPath.blog/

Symbology of the Good Luck Sigil (overflowing chalice)

The overall form of this Good Luck Sigil is deliberately reminiscent of an overflowing chalice, giving the immediate and strong symbolic energy of so many good things coming your way that your cup literally overflows, creating abundance that can be easily shared with others. There is not the emphasis on twos and fives. Instead, you can see threes, fours, and fives, mirrored so there are two symmetrical halves.

At the core is still a target shape holding a pentagram, but the pentagram is not crossed by other lines, leaving it clear and radiant at the center of the sigil. Once again, there is the asterisk, multiple hidden “+” signs, and the dot at the center of the pentagram representing void in balance with the elements and spirit.

The base of the chalice is created by four crescent moons, shielding the four-leaf clover and butterfly form, carried by the arrow. The bottom moon and fletching for the arrow combine to create a stable base for the chalice, and the bottom moon serves as the bow shooting the arrow towards the goal of good luck.

Overflow lines pour over the rim of the chalice to either side, emanating from the full wholeness of each circle. That overflow takes a shape reminiscent of a rainbow and a waterfall, ending in joined hearts that double as exclamation points. The hearts are joined to indicate compassion, caring, and aid that extends to others around you, both as components of the luck, and to share in the luck, similar in meaning to the flowers on the mandala.

How to Use the Good Luck Sigils

You can use the Good Luck Sigils in any way that is in line with their intent and makes sense for your practice. Keep in mind that both are equally good, but one or the other may resonate better for you. Use whichever version you prefer, or both if you would like. They can be used alone, or as a component in another working to help bump your odds of success even further.

The Good Luck Sigils can be helpful to boost just about any spellwork, because the vast majority of spellwork involves bumping the odds in your favor. This means even though this is technically a blessing sigil, you can use it for baneful magic (blessing and baneful magic are very compatible), in addition to healing, manifestation, banishment, social justice, and more.

Some ideas are to:

  • inscribe it on a candle
  • print it or draw it on a piece of paper and place it on your altar or somewhere you see regularly
  • put a copy in your wallet
  • use it as the wallpaper, login background, or screen saver on your phone, tablet, or computer
  • make something crafty and include the sigil in your creation
  • use it as a focus for meditation
  • draw it on the body using salted water, anointing oil, an herb blend, makeup, body paint, henna, markers, temporary tattoo pens, etc.
  • print it onto temporary tattoo paper and apply it to your body
  • and so on

Your rendering of the sigil does not need to be perfect.  Intent is what matters, so do not worry if you cannot draw it “perfectly”.  As long as all the elements are there, you are good.

Like any sigil, the Good Luck Sigils will be most effective when used in conjunction with real-world actions.  Be sure to do what you can to help things go your way.  The sigil alone is not going to fix everything, but it can give a powerful boost to the actions you take.

If you wish you use it as a focus in workings to help the world in general and anyone who needs it, you are welcome to do so.  Instead of focusing the sigil for a single person/situation, send the intent to help anyone who is struggling and could use the benefits of the sigil.

Please read On the Care and Use of Sigils for more information about how to use sigils.

Tattoos and Body Art of the Good Luck Sigils

If you want to get a tattoo of any of my sigils, you do not need to ask me for personal permission.  Permission is granted.  However, I do recommend that you carefully consider whether or not the sigil in question is actually something you need working on you constantly for the rest of your life.  If the answer is no, temporary body art is probably the better way to go, even if you recreate it on a frequent or semi-regular basis.

I also strongly recommend using a temporary body art method to test-drive any sigil before getting it permanently inked.  This can let you test the impact of the sigil, including how placement changes the effects.  This isn’t just some cool design that you like.  It is a piece of magic and will have impact beyond aesthetics.

If you do decide getting a tattoo of one of my sigils is the way to go, I would love it if you showed me how it turned out!  You can send me a message through my website or social media.  If you post the photo to the internet, please tag me on social media so I can see.

Print-on-Demand Purchase of the Good Luck Sigils

I have set up the Good Luck Sigil (both mandala and overflowing chalice versions) print-on-demand in my RedBubble shop, so it can be more convenient to use for those who do not have the time/skills/energy to redraw or recreate the sigil. I have set the items in the shop to 0% commission, so the prices you see are the base prices. Due to my own health problems, I am incapable of doing order fulfillment or running a business, and as a spoonie witch I want the convenience of purchasing for myself as well.

Print-on-demand is provided purely as a convenience, not as a business endeavor. That means I am unlikely to rush to meet any requests for available items or sigils, and I have no control over RedBubble’s order fulfilment processes. I have not purchased or tested the vast majority of products available from RedBubble, but I have set them up in ways that I hope will be issue-free.

Sharing the Good Luck Sigils

The sigil graphic does contain enough text to help clarify it when it is shared out in the wilds of the internet, but best practice is to include a link back to this article.  That way others who see it can find out exactly what it is intended to do, in detail.  Sigils are most effective when the user understands the symbology and knows exactly what they were created to do, and that is also the only way they can be certain this sigil is right for them and their situation.
