Fine Art Landscapes and Skyscapes Work in Progress

Cloudy Hill

This is a back-dated post for my archive project, where I am copying over every piece of art I have ever submitted to DeviantArt, with the original submission date or watermarked year stamp, so a complete archive of my work can be found on this website, even if the item was never or is no longer displayed in my portfolios.

Another class project.

Added the foliage to the trees. I picked up a stippling brush today, and dabbed on the color.

I rather enjoyed doing landscape in paint. I always hated doing them in pencil.

I used a bright tomato red for the underpainting. I’m tentative about the clouds. They don’t look too bad on their own, but they look very different from the clouds in the photo. Also, the color is off from the photo because I don’t have a cool red. Although neither detail truly matters in the greater scheme of things, the point of the project is to color match and accurately represent the photo.

I need to pick up a cool red this week…

I picked up an alizeran (sp?) red paint and mixed shades that were closer to those of the photo, making slightly purplish clouds. I did make heavy use of the cloud shading that already existed, overlaying it with the newly mixed shades, brightening the white, deepening the darks, and generally refining the shapes of the clouds. I don’t plan to make any further changes to the sky.

Another class project.

Added the texture of the hill using a small fan brush. Also painted in the main trunks and branches of the trees on the hill.
