Overbust Corset in Black Lace

This is a back-dated post for my archive project, where I am copying over every piece of art I have ever submitted to DeviantArt, with the original submission date or watermarked year stamp, so a complete archive of my work can be found on this website, even if the item was never or is no longer displayed in my portfolios.

Commissioned custom corset.

It is a high overbust corset, with removable modesty panel to cover cleavage. The cover material is burgundy satin with black lace overlay. Edgings under the grommets and over the busk are black ribbon, to prevent tearing of the lace. The cleavage modesty panel is attached with three small snaps along the top 1.5″ of each side.

I did have some difficulties sewing the lace to the satin, which kept shifting as I attempted to flatline the cover layers together. This caused some of the wrinkles. Most of the wrinkles are a result of the pillow form, which was particularly difficult to fit to this corset. I should have used slightly more boning, to eliminate the wrinkles visible directly in front of the hip panel.

Core is two layers of coutil. Boning is spring steel, mostly 1/4″ width. Cover is separately constructed, and was added after the core was completed. Lining is plain white cotton.

Piecing is based on insert panels, rather than vertical panels. Two hip panels and one bust panel create the curves in those areas.
